RAW HONEY

GIBBS HONEY

$6.00

We take our raw liquid honey and whip it to a creamy and spreadable consistency… raw, pure—and totally delicious.

Our honey is raw, pure, unprocessed—and totally delicious. Everything is produced by our bees, all located within 30 kilometres of our family farm in Vankleek Hill.

OUR PROCESS

We believe in honest honey. Straight from the hive to the jar. All of our honey, wax and propolis is produced by our bees and packaged by us, which means we control the quality every step of the way.

We’re connected to our production at each stage. Nothing comes between us and our bees. This means we can ensure the highest standards and preserve our honey’s flavours, valuable nutrients and antioxidants, as well as the welfare of our bees and the ecology of our yards.

With minimal processing, we’re capturing honey in its perfect state. Just the way nature intended.

WHAT MAKES OUR HONEY DIFFERENT?

Location, location, location (and diversity). Our yards are situated amongst wildflower meadows, mixed forests, organic farms and natural pastures of clover and alfalfa. It’s pretty ideal actually.

We purposely handpick and situate our yards in diverse areas, which yields a greater depth of taste than you can achieve with single-varietal honeys. This also ensures a diverse and healthy diet for the bees, giving them access to as wide a diet of local plants and nectar as possible. We have yards that have been in use for over 100 years and are always looking for new locations where our bees will thrive.

WHAT DOES OUR HONEY TASTE LIKE?

Our honey is noted for its floral characteristics. It’s smooth, balanced and not too sweet.

Just like wine, honey is a product of its terroir, the specific conditions of the area where it’s produced and reflecting all the subtle changes in blooms, weather and soil of a particular season. We like to think of honey as a time capsule of the season, captured in our jars. We even keep jars from different seasons much like people do with vintages of wine.

Honey gives you the opportunity to have a relationship with the environment through flavour. We encourage you to try different honey from different regions and beekeepers, to see just how much the tastes can vary. Pairing honey with various foods is a great way to compare and discover all the subtleties across varietals.

    Available in 80g and 350g.

    Made in Ottawa, Canada.

When we say that this is the amazon of local... we mean it! Order before noon, and get/send your order that day! We send your order along to the fulfillment service, they pick, pack and deliver it.

THERE ARE DELAYS IN THE POSTAL SERVICE? COULD THERE BE DELAYS FOR MY HOLIYAY DELIVERY?

No! When we were planning (virtual) Holiyay craft market we had already heard about the potential delays in delivery + postal service, so it was important for us to find an alternative. Our courier service can get up to 3000 orders out a day!!!

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T ORDER BY THE 12PM EST DAILY CUTOFF TIME?

Your order will be delivered the next day.

    HOW MUCH IS DELIVERY?

Our flat rate delivery costs $15 (tax included) for the Ottawa heart addresses (K1, K2, K4), and a slightly higher amount for surrounding areas. We use a courier service called gopherit deliveries (a proudly indigeneous-owned company) that has ethical hiring practices + offers local fulfillment service. By using this service we are not only creating jobs in the local economy, but we have completely taken the logistics of inventory, packing + shipping off of our makers' to-do lists so that they can do what they do best... make!

(Final delivery + pricing list to come).

WHAT HAPPENS IF I'M NOT HOME WHEN THEY DELIVER?

Its mandatory to put a phone number on the order... if you aren't home, they make every possible effort to get in touch with you. We get it, porch pirates are a thing. And we live in Ottawa where the weather is... well, less than ideal this time of year!  It's absolutely paramount to us that your package shows up in perfect condition.

    HOW WILL IT BE DELIVERED?

We try to cut out plastics whenever we can... your order will be delivered in our custom paper shopper (with custom tags + cards to put in with your gift to highlight local). Your order may be delivered with bubble wrap if the item is breakable (like the ceramics). The jewelry will be delivered in muslin pouches or branded boxes/bags from the brands.

MY ORDER IS A GIFT... HOW CAN I DO THIS?

It's totally up to you! If you want to get it delivered to you so that you can do your own porch drop off to your friend/colleague/boss/dog groomer/great aunt etc, you can totally do that!

But, if you put a separate shipping address at checkout (different than your billing address) we can deliver straight to that special someone!

I WANT TO SEND MULTIPLE GIFTS TO PEOPLE, DO I HAVE TO PAY SEPARATE DELIVERY FEES?

Yes, you will have to pay multiple deliveries. But we take all the work off your plate (going into a shop, coming home, bagging it, delivering it, avoiding those winter roads). Our contactless delivery gets those local gifts to that special someone on your list.

We are looking into placing an order with multiple gifts to be delivered with a reduced delivery fee.... stay tuned!

I'M NOT FROM OTTAWA... DO YOU SHIP?

Yes, we will be shipping with tracked shipping. You may pay a little bit more this way, but this is your best bet at getting it on time to put that local under the tree. We will be shipping on Mondays + Thursdays.

AN ITEM WAS DAMAGED WHEN IT ARRIVED, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

We're sorry this happened to you! If you shopper by courier, please email by the end of the delivery day with photos of the item and your order number to shoplocal@freewheelingcraft.com and we will work with you to sort it out.

If you shopped with shipping, we are not responsible once the package is in the care of Canada Post or other shipping partners. Should shipping insurance apply, we will explore this with you (although some goods are not covered like glass vessels, ceramics etc).
