FAQ: (virtual) CRAFT MARKETS

Things look a little bit different this year... but even though we can't gather together IRL to shop local goods, doesn't mean we can't shop our favourite Ottawa craft markets virtually!

WHEN IS THE NEXT (virtual) CRAFT MARKET?

(virtual) SPRING CRAFT MARKET craft market runs from April 29 to May 3rd 2021, bringing together community and the elements of IRL markets... but online from the comfort + safety of home.

  • Shop all brands with one shipping/delivery price.
  • Local Ottawa delivery (or pickup at the fulfillment centre).
  • Shopping is FREE (no event fee, pay one flat rate for delivery/pickup/shipping).
  • Local food partners.

WHEN: Thursday, April 29th to Monday, May 3rd 2021
WHERE: Right here, on our website.

HOW WILL I GET MY PURCHASES? (PLEASE READ- WE'RE MAKING SOME CHANGES)

After 4 virtual markets, we see the pain-points, and our goal for spring is to make it easy on both you the shoppers, and the makers.

What isn't changing is using a locally-owned and operated courier service (for both delivery + pickup) or Canada wide shipping via swiftpost.

What is changing is our timelines for order pickup/delivery:

  • Shop from April 29th-May 3rd.
  • Pickup and delivery will be from May 6th-9th. This removes a really heavy level of logistics for the makers, the organizers and the delivery service.
  • Need/want your delivery earlier or on a specific day (ie: delivered right to Mom on May 9th? Simply put that in the notes at checkout).

HOW MUCH IS THE FLAT RATE DELIVERY/PICKUP?

Our flat rate delivery costs $10 (tax included) for the Ottawa heart addresses (K1, K2, K4) + $15 for Gatineau (J8) We use a courier service called gopherit deliveries (a proudly family &  indigenous-owned company). By using this service we are not only creating jobs in the local economy, but we have completely taken the logistics of inventory, packing + shipping off of our makers' to-do lists so that they can do what they do best... make!

Don't need/want to do delivery? Do a local pickup for $3. The pickup address is 52 Antares dr (unit 3)- you will get an email from us once we have dropped off your order.

IS THIS SERVICE COVID SAFE?

We know that things are changing daily. We decided in July 2020 to go fully virtual knowing that any gathering could be cancelled at any time, and truly... its the right thing to do right now to keep you safe.

All deliveries will be contactless and the gopherit drivers + staff have covid19 measures in place. Local contactless pickups will require you to wear a mask.

The fulfillment site sanitizes daily, has a stringent mask policy, and do daily covid screening on all staff that comes into contact with people/products.

THERE ARE DELAYS IN THE POSTAL SERVICE? COULD THERE BE DELAYS FOR MY LOCAL DELIVERY?

No! Unless we don't feel comfortable leaving your delivery unattended if you aren't home... we'll get your order to you!

IS THERE A VIRTUAL "ENTRY FEE" TO SHOP?

Nope! You will be able to shop all the goods on our website and they will all be delivered to you in one package. Pay one flat rate for your delivery/pickup to shop 30+ makers.

MY ORDER IS A GIFT... HOW CAN I DO THIS?

It's totally up to you! If you want to get it all delivered to you so that you can do your own porch drop off to your friend/colleague/boss/dog groomer/great aunt etc, you can totally do that!

HOW TO DO IT: Enter the recipient's delivery address at checkout (different than your billing address) we can deliver straight to that special someone (surprise mom on Mother's Day, May 9th).

WHAT HAPPENS IF I'M NOT HOME WHEN THEY DELIVER?

You can't check out without putting a phone number on the order... if you aren't home, they make every possible effort to get in touch with you. We get it, porch pirates are a thing. And we live in Ottawa where the weather is... well, less than ideal this time of year!  It's absolutely paramount to us that your package shows up in perfect condition.

I'M NOT FROM OTTAWA... DO YOU SHIP?

Yes, we will be shipping with tracked shipping. You may pay a little bit more this way.

SOMETHING IS SOLD OUT... WILL IT BE RESTOCKED?

We know that we have THE BEST vendor lists (we might be biased ;) ) and that some of these goods are going to sell fast! Makers have experienced shortages of supplies this year, so your best bet is to buy it before its gone!

HOW WILL IT BE DELIVERED?

We try to cut out plastics whenever we can... your order will be delivered in our custom paper shopper (with custom tags + cards to put in with your gift to highlight local). Your order may be delivered with bubble wrap if the item is breakable (like the ceramics). And the jewelry will be delivered in muslin pouches or branded boxes/bags from the brands.

We recycle packaging for shipping as much as possible.

I WANT TO SEND MULTIPLE GIFTS TO PEOPLE, DO I HAVE TO PAY SEPARATE DELIVERY FEES?

Yes, you will have to pay multiple deliveries. But we take all the work off your plate (going into a shop, coming home, bagging it, delivering it, avoiding those winter roads). Our contactless delivery gets those local gifts to that special someone on your list.

We are looking into placing an order with multiple gifts to be delivered with a reduced delivery fee.... stay tuned!

WHAT OTHER LOCAL INITIATIVES DO YOU HAVE?

We keep AS MUCH local procurement and services local as we can. We have used + hired local photographer, videographer, photo booth, artists, musicians, workshop hosts and virtual assistant work! We also promote local food and experience businesses for you to compliment your local shopping.

THIS IS SUCH A COOL CONCEPT! WILL IT CONTINUE?

We're hoping y'all love it, and its a huge success. We have virtual dates + themes planned through the next couple months, with some ceramics and food specific themes.

I NEED TO EXCHANGE/RETURN SOMETHING AFTER THE MARKET... WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Get in touch with the individual brand. Not sure how to reach them, we're here to help. Reach out to makers@freewheelingcraft.com and we will do our best to help.

*** Delivery pending inclement weather and/or other environmental or major incidents that may impact the courier service's ability to drive.
